31st August 2008

What first pops into your mind when Malaysia comes into question?

Our Beloved Flag?

Remember Cikgu Chai teaching us batik during Art class?haha...those were the fun(lazy) high sch periods...

yum....
Roti canai at Cilipadi, perhaps?

How i miss nasi lemak...the sambal, the deep fried fish, the roasted & fried peanuts & ikan bilis...

The iconic KL Twin Towers?
lols...*

merdeka in Kch was just about having an extra day off from sch..

here in Melbourne...Malaysians actually celebrate what we neglect back home..
Clubbin', a potluck, going to the Fiesta Malaysia at Fed Square this Sunday perhaps?

Music, Malaysian traditional products on sale...(sumtimes the supposedly "malaysian-made" products on sale could be just "Made in China" =p) but i heard...that there wasn't gonna be any Msian food on sale (at all) at Fed Square??? smtg bout not being able to get the permits and stuff...

so not Msian...

The independence of your country of birth...where you spent the last 17 years relishing the peace and prosperity of this nation...leeches as we are, we take this relatively crisis-free country for granted...Just insulting/mocking whatever form of patriotism that comes our way because well...it's "uncool" or "weird"...

Malaysia...despite its government's (sadly) declining competency, my heart still belongs to my home...my Malaysia...

what does 31st of August actually MEAN to you?

Bitter...

"I wondered what happened when you offered yourself to someone, and they opened you, only to discover you were not the gift they expected and they had to smile and nod and say thank you all the same."

~Jodi Picoult - My Sister's Keeper

Sweet..

"Once in second grade, Kate drew a picture of a firefighter with a halo above his helmet. She told her class that I would only be allowed to go to Heaven, because if i went to Hell, I'd put out all the fires."

~Jodi Picoult - My Sister's Keeper

only human

A squirrel in the tree is he watching me
Does he give a damn?
Does he care who I am?
I'm just a man, is that all I am
Are my manners misinterpreted words or only human?
I'm human

Murderous crow, hey what you know
What you reading about, what you hold in your toes
Is that a twig, are you a dove of peace
A black dove undercover, with another puzzle piece
Are you a riddle to solve all along?
Or am I over thinking thoughts of human after all

Only human
Made of flesh, made of sand, made of you and me
The planet's talking about a revolution
The natural laws ain't got no constitution
They've got a right to live their own life
But we keep paving over paradise

`Cause we're only human
Yes we are, only human
If it's our only excuse do you think we'll keep on being only human
Yes we are, yes we are
Only human, only human, only human
So far

Up in the major's tree, the one he planted back when he was just a boy
Thinking 1923
Thirty meters and a foot, take a look, take a climb
What you'll find is the product of a seed
The seed is sown, all alone
It grows above, with a heart of love
Sharp and shelter of the animals of land and cold weather breathing
We're all breathing in

The planet's talking about a revolution
The natural laws ain't got no constitution
They've got a right to live their own life
But we keep paving over paradise

`Cause we're only human
Yes we are, only human
If it's our only excuse do you think we'll keep on being only human
Yes we are, only human, only human, so far, so far

And this place it will outlive me
Before I get to heaven I'll climb that tree
And I will have to give my thanks
For giving me the branch to swing on
If I ever fall in love
I'll have to give myself a baby
I will let my children have their way

`Cause we're only human, yes we are
Only human, so far, so far

Awesome concert

Was looking forward to this concert for a long time...

Jason Mraz...My first ever real live music concert...

We (Bernice, Donna, Maria, Janan, Hilary,Mitch, Nicole, Angela & I) waited outside the theatre since like 6 although the doors to the theatre were to open only at 7.15pm...Apparently, we werent the only Kiasu ones...there were atleast 50 r so ppl already in the queue...plus the "frens" of theirs who came late, that make about between 100- 200 ppl altogether IN FRONT of us only...we were relatively early...ahahha

Anyway, when the line started moving, my heart began pumping faster...grr...having to throw my drinking water before going in the theatre ticked me off a little tho...(It's due to the standing theatre's drink selling tactic.=p)

Anyway, while inside of the building BUT still outside of the theatre, we had the chance to buy J.Mraz merchandise...grr...although the shirt looked tempting, i just bought the badges which had his album picture and stuff so i'm satisfied...=)

then when we got in the theatre, some ppl went to sit at the back!!why???anyway,we took the oppourtunity to get as close to the stage as possible..hehe....we were like the 2/3 row from the front...=D so happy..the squeezing and numb legs were worth it...

The waiting period was horrible though....after we got in the theatre, we had to wait for the opening act to get ready...Melanie Horsnell was pretty good actually!!really thought her songs were honest...has a Sarah Mclahlan voice and a unique style of music...With her on the rhythmic guitar and another guy on the base guitar...it was really lovely...

That was about 8.15pm...then her act finished at about 9.we had to wait like 30 mins for the stage crew to test all the band instruments/mike/sound system and stuff..grrrr....

FINALLY at about 9.40pm, Jason Mraz and his band (trumpet, trombone, Sax, Percussion, drums, keyboard, Guitar)came out...
wearing a grey t-shirt, jeans and a sleek hat(like his album cover), he radiated cool, suave and sophisticated. he looked much more buff than his normally skinny look and he had longer hair too...

and began engaging with the crowd literally "controlling" our cheers..getting our adrenaline running with the music getting faster and faster....ending with the BEGINNING of his classic The Remedy...
He even asked the girls to sing the chorus while he requested the guys to sing Oasis' "Wonderwall" simultaneously....=D terrific aint it?

It was just an amazing concert...

Singing songs like
"I'm Yours", "Summer Breeze", "Bella Luna", "Lucky"(with the opening act singer- Melanie Horsnell), "Only Human" & "If it Kills Me".
Everyone MUST watch Jason Mraz sing/perform live!!! he sounds SO much better live too!his perfect pitch singing with a unique compilation of notes, charming guitar skills and great communication skills make him the perfect entertainer...He knew how to work the crowd, incorporating highs and lows throughout the performance..

Singing along with Jason Mraz while he played and sang barefoot...(he was standing on a rug specially placed there for him...) was enjoyable...memorable...unforgettable...All the musicians performed as TEAM...laughing together, playing together...(excellently i must add)The jazzy instruments added that wonderful touch to that performance...

He threw pictures of his crew to the crowds...grrrr he flicked it to the back!!!!

Anyway, he ended the night with "You and I"...he played alone while the crowd sang along dreading the end of this lovely finale..The crowd was cheering for/begging him not to go as he crooned the last words of his song...

"I'm finally out of, finally dedeedum,
well i'm almost finally, finally, finally out of words..."

After emotional/reluctant bows, he finally made his way backstage leaving his imprint among us all...memories of a mind blowing performance...

what a night...*dazed..
